  7. Minutes of the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP)
  8.  
  9. BGP WG had three meetings during Santa Fe IETF.
  10.  
  11. The first meeting started with presentation by Phill Gross (ANS) on the
  12. need for supporting subnet masks in BGP. Phill's presentation followed
  13. by an extensive discussion on the subject of IP addressing and routing.
  14. Discussion rapidly steered from the initially proposed subject (subnet
  15. masks in BGP) towards general issues of IP addressing and routing.  It
  16. was recognized that the problems and issues that surfaced during the
  17. discussion were not BGP problems, and thus could not be solved by
  18. introducing subnet masks support in BGP. It had been also recognized
  19. that before introducing subnet masks support in BGP we need much better
  20. understanding of the problem(s) we are trying to solve.  At the end of
  21. the first meeting it was suggested that a new Working Group should be
  22. formed.  This Working Group should look at the general issues of
  23. addressing and routing in IP internets.

  25. The second meeting was dedicated to the discussion of the OSPF-BGP
  26. Interaction document.  The author of the document received numerous
  27. comments.  The comments were incorporated into the draft, and a new
  28. version of the draft is available (draft-ietf-bgp-ospfinteract-01.txt).
  29. The second meeting involved active participation from members of the
  30. OSPF and Router Requirements Working Groups.  We expect to turn the
  31. draft into a Proposed Internet Standard by next IETF.

  33. The third meeting was given to Jessica Yu (NSFNET/MERIT) who chaired BGP
  34. Deployment BOF. Minutes of this BOF will be available separately.
